LIMEWASH AND COPPERAS

Toby Norris Public House, Stamford

lime washed bay window

NOTES: As you can see, the finish of limewash with it’s many subtle variations of tone, is far preferable to the stark, bold finish given by paint.  Laymen sometimes say it looks more authentic, but cannot put their finger on why. Probably because it is! Limewashes today are almost identical to those used centuries ago. Limewash may be purchased pre-mixed in many traditional colours and shades. Though, as with most things, there is a correct way to apply it. Get it wrong and it will form a crust and flake!
