MORTAR FILLETS

NOTES: Mortar fillets used to be used to bridge the gap between the door/window frame and the masonry. There is an art in getting a straight, raised fillet and it is not hard to find bad examples. They can also be formed to cover unsightly mastic.

Nothing to do with me! Not uncommon, just walk down the street and have a look. I know this to have been done in 2005!

Windows. In this case the head of the window is semi-circular. Though you can see, I was still able to achieve a uniform fillet.

The roofline of houses of a certain period may also have a mortar fillet.
